Manufactured & Repaired To Spec
Heat exchangers can be manufactured and repaired in accordance with PD5500, BS EN 13445 and ASME VIII Division 1 and 2. Repairs to ASME vessels can also be carried out to National Board "R" stamp, on and off site.
Design, Build, Refurbish, Test...
We have the provision in-house at our state-of-the-art plant in Stonehaven — just south of Aberdeen — to carry out all steps of the process including design, build, rebuild, refurbish, test and re-testing of heat exchangers for all applications.
Full Exotic Material Capabilities
Within our facility we have a designated clean area specifically for mechanical build and testing of exotic material equipment.
CNC, Welding, Rolling & Pressing
The fabrication shop capabilities include both CNC waterjet/oxy fuel profiling machines, pressing and rolling machines, welding capabilities for ferrous and non-ferrous materials in various techniques.

Design & Testing
We specialize in the in-house thermal and mechanical design of heat exchangers and pressure vessels, adhering to all relevant codes. We also offer comprehensive weld engineering and procedures for both ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including exotic options.
Our capabilities extend to CFD modelling, finite analysis, and PMI testing. Additionally, we conduct laser site surveys to ensure that we can manufacture equipment that meets OEM dimensional specifications. Our welding techniques include tube end orbital welding, manual tube end welding, MMA, TIG, and sub-arc welding.
Manufacture & Refurbishment
We offer on-site machining of flange faces both onshore and offshore, performed by our multi-skilled technicians who hold MJI bolt tensioning and torquing qualifications, as well as rigging certifications at Levels 1 and 3.
Our team conducts bolting calculations in accordance with ASME PCC1 2013 standards and provides gasket redesign services. Additionally, our team specialize in tube plugging for heat exchangers, along with repair, refurbishment, and re-tubing services.

- We do stress and fracture mechanics analysis of welded structures, using finite element techniques
- We use advanced processes such as Pulse orbital TIG and Synergic MIG, we use advanced testing methods such as CTOD fracture mechanics

Work that demonstrates our capabilities both on-site and offshore
Complete Heat Exchanger designed and built by Whittaker to PD5500 standards for a major client in West Africa.
In addition, at the client's request, Whittaker manufactured the transport frame to DNV 2.7-1 standards. Whittaker successfully carried out the initial laser survey and final fitting of this unit offshore.
